The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme invites third level graduates from overseas to participate in international exchange and foreign language education throughout Japan. Established in 1987, JET has become one of the largest exchange programmes in the world.

The JET Programme is implemented by local authorities within Japan, in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (the Three Ministries), and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR).

Ireland became a participating country in the JET Programme in 1988. Since then over 1,000 Irish people have contributed to and enjoyed the programme, including the 39 Irish JETs departed for Japan in 2012. Irish JETs act as ambassadors for Ireland, introducing all aspects of Irish culture to the Japanese people.

The application process for the 2013 JET Programme is CLOSED. Application materials for the 2014 Programme will be available in autumn 2013.
