[14-11] Japanese Ambassador’s Commendation presented to access>CINEMA

On 9 July 2014, Mr. Chihiro Atsumi, Ambassador of Japan to Ireland, presented the Ambassador’s Commendation to access>CINEMA for its outstanding contribution to the promotion of Japanese cultural events in Ireland.

Since 2008, access>CINEMA has worked with the Embassy of Japan to organise six editions of the Japanese Film Festival, which started with 12 screenings of 4 films in 3 cities and has expanded year by year to meet the demand of Irish audiences, with 42 screenings of 20 films in 5 cities this year.

At the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Atsumi said, “On this occasion today, it gives me great pleasure to award the Ambassador’s Commendation to access>CINEMA in recognition of its outstanding contribution to the cultural events held by the Embassy”, and continued, “I believe that it is thanks to your willingness to work with us as a team and your commitment to making continuous improvements that this Film Festival has become the successful event it is today”.

Ms. Maeve Cooke, Director of access>CINEMA commented, “I am delighted and extremely honoured to receive this prestigious award on behalf of access>CINEMA. We are very proud of the Japanese Film Festival and our work with the Embassy of Japan over the last six years and this award is a celebration of that successful partnership. I hope that we will continue to work closely together in the future and strengthen our relationship even further.”

The Ambassador’s Commendation is awarded by Ambassadors of Japan to individuals and/or groups who have made a distinguished contribution to the deepening of mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and their own countries. access>CINEMA’s commendation is the seventh presented by Ambassadors of Japan to Ireland, and the second to be presented by the current Ambassador.
