[15-01] Japanese Ambassador’s Commendation presented to Ireland Japan Association

On 13 February 2015, Mr. Chihiro Atsumi, Ambassador of Japan to Ireland, presented the Ambassador’s Commendation to the Ireland Japan Association (IJA) for its outstanding contribution to the mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Ireland.

Since it was founded in 1990 with the aim of strengthening economic and business ties between Japan and Ireland and promoting the understanding of Japanese culture, the IJA has organised many different events, ranging from business seminars to presentations on various aspects of traditional Japanese culture, such as ikebana and calligraphy. The IJA now plays a central role in strengthening business and cultural ties through strong initiatives and involvements in those activities.

At the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Atsumi said, “I would like to express my gratitude to the IJA for its outstanding contribution to deepening the mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and Ireland over the last quarter of a century”, and continued, “On this occasion, it gives me great pleasure to award the Ambassador’s Commendation to the IJA”.

Mr Raymond Hegarty, Chairman of the IJA, commented, “It is an honour for me to accept this award on behalf of the Ireland Japan Association. We are grateful for the support of the Japanese embassy in building bridges of understanding and friendship between Ireland and Japan".
