5 April – Opening of the Japanese Film Festival

From 1-13 April, 21 Japanese films were screened 47 times in eight cities around Ireland to enthusiastic audiences.


6 April Visit to the Embassy by Iveagh Scholars

This year five secondary school students selected by the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for its Iveagh Scholars Programme visit the Embassy and were briefed on various matters.
9 April T.ej Seminar Series

A seminar series called T.ej was held as an Experience Japan related event. The Ambassador’s chef gave a talk entitled “How to Make Sushi” and those who participated got to try making it themselves.

10 April Appointment of Student Ambassador

Ambassador Miyoshi attended the launch of the Education in Ireland Student Ambassador Programme at Farmleigh House. Risako Hayakawa, a Masters student at Dublin City University (DCU), was selected from Japan.
23 April Experience Japan

Experience Japan was took place this year again for the eighth time in the Phoenix Park. A sake barrel opening ceremony by Minister Leo Varadkar, the Lord Mayor of Dublin and Ambassador Miyoshi and many other events were held. The day was blessed with fine weather and there were over 30,000 visitors.  


22-27 April Nankin Tamasudare and Tezuma Performances

Masato Ikeda and his five member troupe gave performances of Nankin Tamasudare and Tezuma, a traditional Japanese form of magic, at the Japanese School, Experience Japan, Shop Street in Galway, University College Cork (UCC) and Grafton Street in Dublin.
23-27 April Noh Costume Lectures

Noh costume researcher Akira Yamaguchi gave lectures about Noh costumes at Experience Japan, University College Cork (UCC) and the Chester Beatty Library.
30 April Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Show

The Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Show was held in Dublin.
