6 November - 2018 JET Programme Returnees' Welcome Home Sake Reception

A sake reception for Irish Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme participants who recently returned from Japan was held at Ambassador Miyoshi's residence. It was a lively gathering with members of the Japanese business community and the Ireland Japan Association (IJA) in attendance. Former Irish Ambassador to Japan Anne Barrington also kindly dropped in.

   

8 November - Lecture Series Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Meiji Restoration

The second part of the lecture series commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Meiji Restoration was held at the Embassy. Dr Mary Redfern, Curator of East Asian Collections, Chester Beatty Library, gave an enjoyable talk on "The Remarkable History of the Emperor's Dining Hall".

11 November - Centenary of Armistice Day

A commemoration for the Centenary of Armistice Day of World War One was held at Glasnevin Cemetery. Ambassador Miyoshi attended the ceremony and laid a wreath.

   


11 November -  Presidential Inauguration

The inauguration ceremony for the second term of office for President Michael D Higgins was held from 6pm at St Patrick's Hall in Dublin Castle and Ambassador Miyoshi also attended.

12 November  - Lecture on "Women in Modern Japanese Society"

On the occasion of her visit to Ireland, Professor Yuko Takahashi, President, Tsuda University, gave a talk at the "Women in Modern Japanese Society" seminar at University College Dublin.

   


16 November - Lecture Series Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Meiji Restoration

The final part of the lecture series commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Meiji Restoration was a talk given by Mr Michael Sinnott LLM (Cantab.) at University College Dublin on "The Framing of the Meiji Constitution of 1889". Members of the general public and the legal profession attended.

19 November - Seminar on Japan-EU EPA by Professor Fukunari Kimura of Keio University

A seminar titled "Turbulence in the World Trade Regime and the Japan-EU EPA" was given by Professor Fukunari Kimura, Keio University, at Trinity College Dublin. After his lecture, there was a lively Q&A session.

   

26 November - ALPS Electric 30th Anniversary Ceremony

Ambassador Miyoshi was invited to the 30th anniversary ceremony of ALPS Electric Ireland in Millstreet, County Cork and gave a congratulatory address, together with Minister Michael Creed TD and other guests.
