Our Activities (January 2019)
The annual New Year Reception was held at the Ambassador’s Residence. Following opening remarks by Ambassador Miyoshi and Mr Shinichi Hayashida, President of the Japan Business Society in Ireland, the invited guests enjoyed the evening.
At NUI Galway, the popular culture event “Akumakon” was held. Ambassador Miyoshi, together with NUI Galway Deputy President Professor Pól Ó Dochartaigh, visited the event and later joined a reception with the Deputy Mayor of Galway, Councillor Donal Lyons.
Ambassador Miyoshi, together with President Michael D. Higgins, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, the chairs of the Houses of the Oireachtas and other members of the diplomatic corps, attended events to mark the centenary of the first Dáil that took place at the Mansion House in Dublin. On the same day in the same venue 100 years ago, the first sitting of the Irish parliament was held.
Japan exhibited again this year at the “Holiday World Show”, Ireland’s largest holiday exhibition, in Dublin. With the Rugby World Cup taking place this autumn in Japan in mind, Ambassador Miyoshi wore a rugby jersey when she welcomed Tourism Minister Shane Ross to Japan’s stand.
