4-5 April 2019 – Taiko Concerts
 
A taiko team headed by Hiro Hayashida performed at concerts in Galway (4 April) and Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin (5 April).
7 April 2019 – 10th Experience Japan
 
The 10th Experience Japan took place in the Phoenix Park featuring lively performances by taiko and tsugaru shamisen musicians visiting from Japan in collaboration with Irish music and dance and soran bushi performed by university students. Kevin Boxer Moran TD, Minister of State for the Office of Public Works and Flood Relief, whose department is responsible for operations at the State Guest House (Farmleigh), also attended. The day was also blessed with good weather and there were approximately 30,000 visitors.
 
9 April 2019 – Team Ireland Tokyo Olympics Pre-Camp Signing Ceremony
 
Fukuroi City in Shizuoka Prefecture was selected as the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Pre-Camp venue for Team Ireland and Mayor Hideyuki Harada visited Ireland for a signing ceremony with Peter Sherrard, CEO of the Olympic Federation of Ireland. John Treacy, CEO of Sport Ireland, Sarah Keane, President of the Olympic Federation of Ireland and Kenichiro Sasame, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Japan, also attended.
 
10 April 2019 – 11th Japanese Film Festival
 
In Dublin, the film “Born Bone Born”, set in Okinawa, opened the 11th Japanese Film Festival. This year 17 films were screened in eight cities.
 
15 April 2019 – Commemorative Reading on the Publication of the English Translation of New and Selected Poems by Mikiro Sasaki
 
An event was held at Poetry Ireland in Dublin to mark the publication in English of “Sky Navigation Homeward” by Japanese poet Mikiro Sasaki. Mr Sasaki was joined by Professor Mitsuko Ono and Professor Nobuaki Tochigi for a first bilingual reading.
