Japan removes age restrictions on Irish beef imports

Regarding beef trading conditions, Japan has removed the previous age restriction on Irish beef and beef offal of under 30 months, effective from 17th May 2019. It is a result of a successful beef audit of Ireland by a team of inspectors from the Japanese Authorities in March 2019.

This follows the December 2013 lifting of a ban on beef and beef offal imports from Ireland.

Mrs Mari Miyoshi, Ambassador of Japan to Ireland, commented, “This improvement in beef trading conditions, along with the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) which entered into force on 1st February 2019, will significantly promote trade between Japan and Ireland and lead to deepen their bilateral relationship.”
