COVID Testing Centres

2023/3/1
1) The Embassy of Japan provides the following information on COVID testing centres.
These testing centres will fill out a Japanese form (Certificate of Testing for COVID-19) by request.

TMB Travel Health Clinics (https://www.tmb.ie/services/covid-19-travel-clearance-certificate)
In Dun Laoghaire clinic only
Citytest Testing (www.citytest.ie) In Dublin only.
Covid Screening Cork (https://www.covidscreeningcork.ie/) In Cork only

2) Testing centres using their own test result certificate
Randox Health Travel Centre (https://booking.randox.ie/) *Please note
They have testing centres at Dublin Airport. The Express PCR test result certificates issued by them are in their own format, but we have checked with the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare regarding their suitability and we have received a reply that "the certificate can be regarded as a valid certificate for entry into Japan.” However, there is a possibility that their format may be changed without our knowledge. As a result, it is possible that the certificate may no longer meet the conditions and contents required by the Government of Japan. Therefore, please refer to the following website of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) to confirm that the necessary conditions and requirements (such as specimen, test method, etc. ) are met before you book a test.

Any test result certificate is also valid as long as it meets the conditions mentioned below. When using such certificate, it may take time to check the certificates during boarding procedures at departure and landing procedures in Japan, and we strongly encourage the use of the "Visit Japan Web" for pre-screening. When using the testing centre’s own test result certificate, all the items must be written in English or Japanese.

The final decision on whether or not entry into Japan is allowed will be made by the immigration/quarantine officer at the airport in Japan. Therefore, please understand that the Embassy cannot guarantee that you will be allowed to enter Japan by using testing centre’s own test result certificate.

3) Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare website (Presentation of Inspection Certificate)
Please refer to the link below for details on the inspection method and inspection certificate.
Please use the Japanese form (click on the second item, "Japanese/English" for the Japanese form) where possible and make sure that all required items are included when you receive the certificate.

(4) Precautions at transit points
Since there are no direct flights from Ireland to Japan. We recommend that you contact the airline company you are planning to use in advance to check the regulations of the country you are transferring to (please note once you enter a country at a transfer point, that country will be considered your country of origin and you will be required to show proof of a negative test result taken within 72 hours prior to departure from the transfer point).
