Official Visit to Ireland by Members of the Commission on the Constitution - House of Representatives (13 July to 16 July)

On 13 July, Ambassador MARUYAMA Norio accompanied members of the Commission on the Constitution, Japanese House of Representatives, Dr. MORI Eisuke, Mr. SHINDO Yoshitaka, Mr. NAKAGAWA Masaharu, Mr. HAMACHI Masakazu and Mr. KITAGAMI Keiro to meetings with Mr. Seán Ó Fearghaíl TD, Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann, Mr. Christopher O’Sullivan TD, Convenor of the Ireland Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group (IJPFG), Senator Paul Daly, IJPFG Member, and Senator Emer Currie, IJPFG Member, at Leinster House.
The delegation also met with Ms. Sonja Hyland, Deputy Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs, at Iveagh House on the first day of their visit to Ireland. The delegation enjoyed fruitful discussions about Japan-Ireland bilateral relations at both of the meetings.

On 14 July, Ambassador Maruyama accompanied the members of the Commission to a meeting with Ms. Justice Marie Baker, Chairperson, Mr. Art O’Leary, Chief Executive and Ms. Mary-Clare O’Sullivan, Head of Electoral Integrity, at the Electoral Commission.
The delegation later met with Dr. Tony Holohan, former Chief Medical Officer, Ms. Angela O’Floinn, Head of Legal Unit, Ms. Linda Keating, Principal Officer, Corporate Legislation Unit, and Mr. Keith Lyons, NPHET Secretariat, Department of Health, and Mr. Paul Reid, former Chief Executive Officer, Health Service Executive.
The final meeting on the second day of their visit to Ireland was with Dr. David Kenny, Associate Professor of Law, Trinity College Dublin. At each of the meetings they engaged in stimulating discussions about Ireland’s constitution.
