2024 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals
On 3 November 2024, the Government of Japan announced the recipients of the 2024 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on Foreign Nationals. This year, Dr Peter Aidan McMillan is conferred with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, in recognition of his contribution to the introduction and dissemination of Japanese culture through the English translation of Hyakunin Isshu (One Hundred Poets, One Poem Each).
Dr McMillan has made a longstanding and distinguished contribution to the spread of the Japanese language through classical Japanese literature, and the advancement of the understanding of Japanese culture overseas, in addition to promoting exchanges between Japan and other countries.
The Embassy of Japan in Ireland would like to pay tribute to Dr McMillan for his past achievements, wish him continued success in his future endeavours, and extend its sincere congratulations on this award.
