Call on National Museum of Ireland
A view of National Museum of Ireland
On 4 February, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu paid a call on the National Museum of Ireland. Dr Éimear O'Connor, Acting Director of the museum, and her staff received the Ambassador and his team.
The Ambassador introduced himself, explaining that the Embassy of Japan would like to collaborate further with the National Museum of Ireland toward the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Japan-Ireland diplomatic relations in 2027. Both sides exchanged preliminary views and ideas on what would be possible to that end, taking into account their joint undertakings during the 60th anniversary in 2017.
Following the discussion, the Ambassador and the Embassy team were cordially taken around the museum, viewing precious artifacts including the excellent Japanese collection of "ukiyoe" (wood block prints), armour and "tsuba" (decorative sword mountings) amongst others. The Embassy of Japan looks forward to cooperating with the National Museum of Ireland in association with relevant Japanese cultural organisations.
