On 13 February, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu met with Professor Becky Whay, Vice President, University of Galway. Vice President Whay explained about the university’s relations with Japan, such as the Japanese students studying at University of Galway, “Akumakon” (annual convention of anime, manga and cosplay) organised by students, exchanges with Aichi Shukutoku University, the University of Kitakyushu, Aoyama Gakuin University, and Kobe University and so on. The Ambassador said that about 30 graduates from the University of Galway had participated in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme over the past decade, teaching English or working with local government in Japan. The Ambassador also stated that he would like to cooperate with the university and deepen exchanges, for example, by beginning to hold the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at University of Galway.
The Embassy of Japan will enhance cooperation with the University of Galway toward the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland, in order to lead to the expansion of contacts between Galway and Japanese municipalities.
