On 13 February, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu and Ms NAKATA Keiko, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Ireland, met with Cllr Alan Cheevers, Deputy Mayor, and Ms Sally-Ann O’Brien, Director for Tourism, of Galway City.
At the outset, Deputy Mayor Cheevers welcomed the Japanese delegation, and Ms O’Brien elaborated on the various attractions of the City of Galway. The Ambassador touched upon mutual tourism promotion between Galway and Japan, youth exchanges by the University of Galway and other stakeholders, including the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme, and investment by Japanese companies in Galway and Ireland. He promised that the Embassy of Japan would try its best to further develop cooperation between Galway, Japan, and municipalities in Japan toward the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland in 2027.
