On 19 February, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu paid a courtesy call on Mr Gerard Keown, Political Director, DFAT, at Bishop’s Square in Dublin. The Political Director served in Tokyo for five years and then experienced Ambassadorial posts in Poland and to the OECD and UNESCO in Paris (concurrently serving as Director General for Economic and Asia Pacific) along with various important responsibilities at DFAT headquarters in Dublin. 
Mr Keown is also the author of "First of the Small Nations: The Beginnings of Irish Foreign Policy in the Interwar Years" (2016). 
The Embassy of Japan looks forward to deepening the relations between Ireland and Japan through continuous dialogue with the Political Director and his team on various issues of common interest.
