Mayor SASAKI talked about the long-standing and wide-ranging exchanges between Iwate Town and Ireland, as well as prospects for further cooperation. These include sport exchanges, such as providing training camps in the lead-up to the Tokyo Olympic Games, which reflects Iwate Town’s record of producing some of Japan’s leading field hockey players; the short-term exchange programme between senior high school students from Iwate Town and Dublin, now in its fourth year; and cultural exchanges through sculpture involving Mr KATAGIRI Hironori, an artist resident in Iwate Town, and Cork City.
Looking ahead to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland in 2027, the Embassy of Japan in Ireland will continue to build on every possible cooperation to further deepen exchanges between Iwate Town and Ireland.
