On 5 March, Ms Róise Goan, Artistic Director and CEO, Dublin Theatre Festival, kindly visited the Embassy of Japan in Ireland. Ms Goan assumed her post as Artistic Director and CEO in February 2025. She has studied Japanese theatrical arts, retaining great interest in both the traditional and contemporary stage arts of Japan.
Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu welcomed Ms Goan, and he and his team had a preliminary discussion with Ms Goan on possible joint works at the Dublin Theatre Festival to shed light on contemporary Japanese drama as well as Japan's traditional theatrical arts including “Bunraku,” possibly with a contemporary twist.
The Embassy of Japan in Ireland pays its tribute to Ms Goan's very positive understanding of Japanese theatrical arts and her insights on its possible impacts on the Irish people. We will continue to work with Ms Goan and her team, looking forward to many mutual opportunities beyond borders to bridge Japan and Ireland through the theatre.
