On 25 February, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu, accompanied by Ms UENO Yumiko, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Ireland (seconded from the Osaka Prefectural Police), visited the headquarters of An Garda Síochána to pay a courtesy call on Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly.
During the meeting, Ambassador MIYAGAWA expressed his profound gratitude for the dedicated efforts of Ireland’s national police and security service in ensuring the safety and security of more than 3,000 Japanese residents and visitors in Ireland, and requested their continued cooperation.
In response, Commissioner Kelly introduced Detective Superintendent Tony Kelly, International Liaison of An Garda Síochána, who also attended the meeting. The Garda Commissioner subsequently provided an overview of the security situation in Ireland, the mission of An Garda Síochána, and cooperation with Japan. He further stated that An Garda Síochána would continue to ensure the safety and security of Japanese nationals residing in Ireland.
The Embassy of Japan in Ireland expresses its deep respect for the activities of An Garda Síochána and remains committed to playing every possible role in further strengthening cooperation between our two countries.
