On 4 March, the conference held in Dublin was attended by a large audience, including representatives from the pharmaceutical industry from Ireland, Japan, and other countries, as well as members of the diplomatic corps. At the opening ceremony, following welcoming remarks by Mr Shane Ryan, President of the Association, a keynote address was delivered by Dr Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, Minister for Health. In her speech, the Minister referred to progress in legislation related to the simplification of procedures for the approval of new medicines in Ireland, the importance of public–private partnerships in the pharmaceutical sector, and Ireland’s determination to strongly promote measures such as strengthening the competitiveness of the pharmaceutical sector within the EU Single Market and further streamlining regulatory procedures later this year when it assumes the EU Presidency from Cyprus, drawing on the substantial concentration of pharmaceutical industries located in Ireland.
From the Embassy of Japan in Ireland, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu and Ms ONOZAKI , Economic Attaché, attended the event. Mr Shane Ryan, President of the Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association, also serves as General Manager of Takeda Ireland. The Embassy of Japan in Ireland reiterates its gratitude for the opportunity to attend this annual conference, following its visit in February to the Bray facility of Takeda Ireland in County Wicklow. The Embassy will continue to cooperate towards the further development of Japan–Ireland relations in the pharmaceutical sector, as well as Japan–EU relations through Ireland.
