On 26 March, at Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu paid a courtesy call on Minister of State, Mr Thomas Byrne TD. Following Mr Byrne’s words of welcome, Ambassador MIYAGAWA stated that, in the lead-up to Ireland’s assumption of the Presidency of the European Union in July this year, he would devote his utmost efforts, however modest, under the political leadership of Mr Byrne, to further strengthening relations between Japan, Ireland and the European Union.
The Ambassador also exchanged views on Japan and Ireland’s bilateral relationship and their respective relationship with the EU, as well as regional situations while hearing Mr Byrne’s reflections on his recent visits to Ukraine, Poland and Moldova around the time of St Patrick’s Day.
