On 19 March, Mr TSUCHIYA Yoshihiro, Vice President of the IJCC, visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and exchanged views with Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu to Ireland, who was in Tokyo to attend the meeting of the Japanese Ambassadors in Europe. Both sides discussed preparations for the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland in 2027 and other matters.
Drawing on his many years of business experience, Mr TSUCHIYA has made significant contributions to promoting exchanges between Japan and Ireland. In addition to previously serving as President of the IJCC, he has also acted as Chairman of the preparation committee for “Green Ireland Festival” held annually at Yoyogi Park in Tokyo, which attracts large numbers of participants every year around St Patrick’s Day. More recently, he has also devoted considerable effort to promoting an “Irish Bon Odori”, an Irish-style adaptation of the traditional Japanese Bon dance.
The Embassy of Japan in Ireland pays its tribute for Mr TSUCHIYA’s efforts in promoting Japan–Ireland exchanges and will continue working in collaboration with the IJCC to further develop bilateral exchanges towards the 70th anniversary in 2027.
