On 23 March, students from the harp clubs of Kinjo Gakuin Junior/Senior High School and Kinjo Gakuin University in Aichi Prefecture, Japan paid a courtesy call on Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu and his wife at their official residence. The students performed beautiful songs on the harp along with an impressive slideshow presentation in English about their school and Japan, followed by a demonstration of the harp by their teacher and performance of the Soran Bushi, a traditional Japanese folk song of fisherman. The schools were visiting Sligo and Portlaoise to engage with local communities through the harp.
Ambassador MIYAGAWA welcomed Kinjo Gakuin harp club’s visit to Ireland, paying his tribute to its 50 years’ history since its establishment. He also expressed his expectation that the visit by Kinjo Gakuin would further develop friendship and goodwill between Ireland and Japan through harp exchanges, touching upon the upcoming 70th anniversary of Japan-Ireland relations in 2027. Mr and Mrs MIYAGAWA also listened to the students and teachers discuss how they enjoyed playing the harp.
The Embassy of Japan wishes the best to Kinjo Gakuin harp club.
