On 24 March, the Embassy of Japan in Ireland invited ikebana professor Ms Tomoko Sempo Yanagi to Ireland to conduct demonstrations and workshops. Transition Year students at St Mac Dara’s Community College in Dublin kindly agreed to host one of the workshops! Arigatou gozaimasu!

Ms YANAGI gave a demonstration and introduction to the history and philosophy of ikebana, and then the students created their own arrangements. The students worked in groups of three, and Ms YANAGI gave each group feedback. She was very impressed with the students’ work!

The students said that they thoroughly enjoyed the workshop, and the opportunity to learn about and experience Japanese culture.

Ms YANAGI is a Professor of the Ikenobo School of Ikebana, with nearly 40 years of study and practice since childhood. She is also President of the Ikenobo UK & Ireland Chapter and a Royal Horticultural Society Flower Show medallist.
