On 9 April, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu paid a courtesy call on Ms. Síle Maguire, Director General, Corporate Services and Human Resources Divisions, at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She has been Ambassador to Ethiopia, Spain, and Nigeria previously and experienced various senior roles both in Dublin and overseas.
After her warm words of welcome as well as condolences on the passing of H.E. Mr. SHIMADA Junji, former Ambassador of Japan to Ireland, Ambassador Miyagawa and Mr. ISHIMOTO Akihiro, First Secretary of the Embassy, asked about the Gender Equality, Inclusion and Diversity (GEID) strategy of the Department and were enlightened by the Director General's kind explanation on this topic and other matters.
In response, Ambassador MIYAGAWA shared his view about the policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on the empowerment of women, touching upon Women, Peace and Security (WPS), gender balance of personnel and international comparisons among other issues.
The Embassy of Japan in Ireland will continue to communicate with Director General Maguire and cooperate with Ireland whenever possible in future.
