Congratulations to all the new students!

On 11 April, the entrance ceremony for the Dublin School for Japanese Children and Sakura Kindergarten was held. Following the national anthems of both Japan and Ireland,  the kindergarten children (ages 3-4), elementary school first graders and junior high school first graders were called by name by their homeroom teachers and cheerfully greeted their families, school staff, kindergarten teachers and staff, and guests.

Following an address by Principal Yasuda, Ambassador MIYAGAWA and Mr OSHIMA, Vice Chairman of the Japan Business Association, delivered congratulatory speeches on behalf of the guests. Ms OTSUKA made a welcome speech on behalf of the current students and Ms SHIMURA gave a pledge on behalf of the new students.
The Embassy of Japan in Ireland wishes all the new students a fulfilling and enriching experience.

[Ambassador MIYAGAWA's Speech]

Good morning everyone. Congratulations on your enrollment in kindergarten and school. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to your families, kindergarten teachers and schoolteachers.

New students, how did you feel when you woke up this morning? Did you eat breakfast properly? The flowers you're wearing on your lapels are beautiful.

Just now, we all sang the kindergarten and school songs together with great enthusiasm. Here in Dublin, your future will be very rich as you study, play sports, play with friends, and travel around Ireland and Europe. For example, imagine there is a cherry tree here. You look at it up close. You look at it from the side. You look at it from behind. You look at it from the rooftop of a building. You might think, "Wow, the same cherry tree looks so different!" Without even realising it, you are having a similar experience of seeing a cherry tree from many different angles as you interact with Ireland, Japan and various other countries.

Both the kindergarten song and the school song feature a "Rainbow Bridge." "I want to travel on the Rainbow Bridge," "The Rainbow Bridge that connects Ireland and Japan as one." These are very beautiful lyrics. Just as the song says, I hope that you will all journey on the "Rainbow Bridge" and one day be able to build a "Rainbow Bridge" that connects your two homelands. Thank you very much for inviting me today.
