On 29 April, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu paid a courtesy call on Mr Peter Burke TD, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, and exchanged views on ways to further develop Japan–Ireland economic relations.

Both sides recalled the Japan–Ireland Joint Leaders’ Statement of 2022, the Minister’s visit to Japan in June 2025, the discussions held during Taoiseach Micheál Martin’s visit to Japan in July 2025, as well as Ireland’s upcoming Presidency of the EU in July this year.

With all this in mind, they constructively discussed further promoting trade and investment, utilising AI and digitalisation, exploring potential cooperation in the space sector, and enhancing mutual tourism and sport exchanges towards the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland in 2027.

They also confirmed that the Embassy of Japan in Ireland and the Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment will continue to maintain close communication.
