On 13 May, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu and Ms NAKATA Keiko, First Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Ireland, paid a courtesy call on Dr Jenny Melia, CEO of Enterprise Ireland.

Following CEO Melia’s words of welcome, the Ambassador conveyed his sympathies and the readiness of Japan to cooperate with respect to restoration after the fire in Waterford on Saturday, 9 May.

Then the Ambassador and Dr Melia discussed possible ways and means to further develop Japan–Ireland economic relations, following up the visits to Japan last year by the Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment Peter Burke, Dr Melia, and other senior officials and business delegations. Recognising the important roles played by the SMEs and start-ups of both countries, they covered a wide range of opportunities in such fields as healthcare, AI, quantum technology, energy, fintech, and space amongst others.

The Embassy of Japan in Ireland intends to continue working towards the further strengthening of Japan–Ireland economic relations through cooperation with Enterprise Ireland, including with Dr Melia, who has accumulated a wide range of experience at Enterprise Ireland over nearly 30 years. We will continue to do so this year and beyond the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries in 2027.
