On 10 June, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu paid a courtesy call on Ms Jacqui McCrum, Secretary General of the Department of Defence, and exchanged views on possible cooperation and exchanges between Japan and Ireland in the defence sector.
Ambassador MIYAGAWA noted that the security of the Indo-Pacific and the Euro-Atlantic is inseparable. He also highlighted that, as maritime nations committed to the rule of law, both Japan and Ireland have experience in United Nations peacekeeping operations and, in recent years, have been addressing a number of shared agendas, including maritime security, cybersecurity, and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.
Taking into account the 2022 Joint Statement by the Leaders of Japan and Ireland, recent developments in international relations, and the continued advancement of bilateral relations, the Embassy of Japan in Ireland intends to continue building possible cooperation and exchanges with Ireland together with the Department of Defence.
