On 15 June, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu and staff members of the Embassy of Japan in Ireland visited the Advanced Manufacturing Lab of Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR) in County Westmeath. They exchanged views with Mr Barry Kennedy, Chief Executive Officer, and staff members of IMR on a range of topics, including the manufacturing sector, innovation, human resource development, the space industry, and the potential for further collaboration with Japanese companies. The IMR leadership kindly took the Ambassador and his colleagues around the facility.
Founded in 2014, as a national centre for applied manufacturing research in Ireland, IMR has continued to make progress step by step. Most recently, in February this year, ESA Phi-Lab Ireland, a research and development laboratory of the European Space Agency (ESA) was opened.
The Embassy of Japan in Ireland will continue its dialogue with IMR, exploring new avenues for cooperation, bearing in mind the potential for collaboration between Japan and Ireland in fields such as information technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and the space sector as well as other fields.
