On 25 July, in the early morning, we said goodbye to the main departure group of the 2026 JET Programme cohort. They have been working tirelessly over the past months in preparation for this day, and the air was full of excitement as they set off on this new adventure.
Like hundreds of Irish JETs before them, they will be working at prefectural offices, city halls, boards of education, and elementary, junior high, and high schools. As Coordinators of International Relations and Assistant Language Teachers, they will be providing valuable cultural and translation services and giving high-level and engaging English instruction, all while developing the special relationship between Japan and Ireland by sharing Irish culture with their new colleagues, students, and communities.
They will be working throughout Japan from Shimane to Osaka to Kumamoto to Hokkaido!
If you are interested in following in their footsteps, we are preparing to open for applications to the 2027 JET Programme from late September to early December 2026. You can find more information about the application process on the JET Programme information page on the Embassy of Japan in Ireland website (https://www.ie.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/00_000048.html), or by contacting jet@ir.mofa.go.jp to reach Richard at the JET Desk. Do let us know if you would like to be added to our mailing list to be notified when applications officially open! You can also reach out to @JETAA Ireland , our JET Alumni Association to talk to former participants and get involved with the JET community in Ireland.
We would like to wish our outgoing JETs the very best of luck as they complete their orientation and training in central Tokyo before travelling to their new homes! We know that you will make us proud!
頑張ってくださいね!
Go n-éirí go geal libh!
