On 24 August, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu visited DCU to offer a presentation to over 200 Japanese students, as well as other international students and DCU staff. The Japanese students were from a wide array of universities across Japan, and were in DCU on several different programmes for international students.
The Ambassador was welcomed by Prof. Anne Sinnott, DCU Deputy President, Mr Niall Martin, DCU IA Executive Director (ELT Programmes), Ms Niamh O’Mahony, DCU IA Executive Director (Foundation Year, Undergraduate Recruitment and Translation Services), and Ms Carmel Riggs, DCU Events Coordinator.
Ambassador MIYAGAWA’s presentation covered the work of the Embassy of Japan in Ireland and the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the history, current state, and future of Japan-Ireland relations, and the Ambassador’s experiences during his previous post in Okinawa, Japan.
The Ambassador and the Embassy’s Public Relations and Culture Assistant Mr Dáithí Ó hAodha then answered questions from both students and staff about their work at the Embassy of Japan in Ireland.
The Embassy sincerely hopes that this wonderful event involving so many students can be the start of further cooperation with DCU, and especially looks forward to cooperating throughout 2027, which will mark the 70th anniversary of Japan-Ireland diplomatic relations.
