On 25 September, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu met with Dr Declan M. Downey of University College Dublin (UCD) and talked each other about the history of exchanges between Japan and Ireland, as well as the values shared by the two countries. Ambassador also took the opportunity to listen to Dr Downey's enlightening views on the history between Ireland and European countries such as Spain and Austria amongst other countries.

In 2027, Japan and Ireland will mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Embassy of Japan in Ireland will deepen its cooperation with UCD by drawing on the long history of exchanges between the two countries since the Meiji Restoration, with a view to further promoting mutual exchanges across a wide range of fields in the years ahead.

In November, Ambassador MIYAGAWA is scheduled to revisit UCD, where he will meet with members of the university community, including students taught by Dr Downey in subjects such as modern Japan and international relations. Ambassador will talk and exchange views on perspective of Japan-Ireland relations in a changing world.
