On 6 October, Professor HARA Masahiko, Director of the London Office of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Mr SATOW Taiki, Deputy Director, and Ms KON Aoi, International Programme Associate, visited the Embassy of Japan in Ireland.
Ambassador MIYAGAWA and Ms ONOZAKI, Researcher, discussed with Director HARA and his colleagues the current state of academic exchange between Japan and Ireland. The Embassy explained that educational institutions, including universities promoting exchanges with Japan, are located in various parts of Ireland; that Ireland has the highest number of Japanese-language learners per capita in Europe; and that people-to-people exchanges enjoy a solid foundation, including those through the JET Programme which has continued for more than 40 years.
The Embassy of Japan in Ireland will continue to work closely with JSPS to further strengthen cooperation between Japan and Ireland, with a view towards the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland in 2027, as well as the future beyond that milestone.
