On 15 October, Ambassador MIYAGAWA Manabu visited Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Hall and congratulated Cllr Barry Saul, Cathaoirleach, on his return to office this summer, 11 years since he was last elected Cathaoirleach in 2015.
Following the Cathaoirleach’s words of welcome, Ambassador MIYAGAWA expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the local authority to ensure the safety and security of Japanese residents in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. He also expressed his hope for continued cooperation in this regard. The Ambassador further remarked that he and his Embassy colleagues had attended the Sandyford Business District Summit, held in the area on 13–14 October, and had been impressed by the lively discussions on innovation in the business district.
Both parties agreed on the importance of further strengthening exchanges between Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and Japan in the lead-up to the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ireland in 2027.
The Embassy of Japan in Ireland looks forward to continuing to work closely with the Cathaoirleach and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, as it did under his predecessor, former Cathaoirleach Cllr. Jim Gildea, to further develop the friendly relations between Japan and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
