Japanese film screenings

On 19 December, 31 students from Gorey Community School attended screenings of the Japanese film Quartet! and Japan Video Topics on Japanese martial arts at the Embassy of Japan in Ireland.

Reception in honour of the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan

A reception in honour of the 79th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan on 23 December was held at the Ambassador's residence on 11 December.

The reception was attended by approximately 200 guests, including Mr Fergus O'Dowd TD, Minister of State (Departments of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and Environment, Community and Local Government), Dr Liam Twomey TD, Senator Susan O'Keeffe, and Mr Frank Ryan, Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Ireland.

The national anthems of both countries were performed on the shakuhachi (bamboo flute) and piano by a duo of Irish musicians.

DVDs on the international goodwill visits abroad made by Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress, and on tourist attractions in Japan were screened at the reception and enjoyed by all the guests.

14 November - 5 December 2012

Japanese film season

On 14, 21 and 28 November and 5 December, a season of 4 Japanese films was held at Dublin City Dolphin's Barn Library, with screenings of the following films: The Story of Me, My Family and My Dog, Quartet!, Eclair, and Haru's Journey.
